City of Wanneroo seeks entrepreneurs for Curtin Ignition scholarships

Published Tuesday, 28th May 2019

The City of Wanneroo is excited to be offering two scholarships for local business owners and residents to participate in Curtin Ignition 2019.

Curtin Ignition scholarships

A Curtin University initiative, Curtin Ignition, is an intensive, one week entrepreneurial education program for aspiring entrepreneurs, academics and corporate innovators.

Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the City was proud to provide these scholarships as strong businesses with high growth potential are an essential part of the growing City of Wanneroo community.

"Our local business community provides local employment, creates strong and vibrant centres and builds our economy,” she said.

“Initiatives like this scholarship program also help us work towards state employment selfsufficiency targets through supporting strategic employment initiatives.

“I am pleased that two applicants will have the opportunity to develop and expand their innovative business concepts within our City.”

In the program, participants will trial and prepare business ideas for the commercial environment and learn how to:

  • explain the business opportunity in commercial terms;
  • identify suitable opportunities in a short period with minimal investment;
  • clarify the concept and have it tested in a high calibre and safe environment;
  • make a significant network of contacts; and
  • gain confidence in the business with a clear path forward.

“I urge all interested City of Wanneroo businesses and residents wanting to develop an innovative business idea or concept to take up this exciting opportunity,” Mayor Roberts said.

“Significant growth is forecasted within the City and, new ideas and entrepreneurs are needed to drive that forward by generating employment opportunities in new industries.”

Curtin Ignition 2019 will run from Sunday 25th to Friday 30th August 2019.

Curtin will be running a series of information sessions for prospective participants. You can read more and register at the Curtin University website.
