Council keen for community comments on Mariginiup speeds

City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts is calling on Main Roads WA to consult with local residents about traffic concerns in Mariginiup.
This comes following Council’s consideration of a petition in August, from residents worried about the impact of proposed sand mining activities in nearby State forest on the local road network.
Council subsequently requested Main Roads WA (MRWA) conduct a speed limit review of the area, which is currently 110km/h, the default limit for non-built up areas.
MRWA responded with a proposed 70km/h speed limit to several roads within Mariginiup; Via Vista Drive, Lord Maselle Place, Zest Court, Seminara Place, Meadowlands Drive, Conductor Retreat, Timely Hostess Mews.
The City of Wanneroo believes a speed limit of 50km/h would be more appropriate for the area.
Mayor Tracey Roberts said it was disappointing that the City’s request for a 50km/h speed limit was not approved by MRWA.
“Whilst MRWA’s proposed speed limit of 70km/h is much better compared to the existing default limit of 110km/h, Council believes it would be in the community’s best interests if the speed limit was reduced to 50km/h,” Mayor Roberts said.
“I am pleased that Council has supported my view that City Administration should write to Main Roads WA requesting they consult with local residents to reconsider reducing the speed limit to 50km/h.”
