Yanchep Surf Life Saving Club set to officially open
Published Wednesday, 7th March 2018
Surf life savers and beachgoers are gearing up to celebrate the opening of the Yanchep Surf Life Saving Club this weekend.
While the new premises has been utilised since the club was given the keys just prior to Christmas, this Sunday 11 March marks the official opening of the eagerly awaited facility.
Community members will be able to see for themselves the state-of-the-art building, home to the incredible volunteers who form the Yanchep SLSC, and enjoy the face-painting, ice cream and free sausage sizzle on offer.
The Yanchep SLSC is also hoping to perform a surf rescue display - weather permitting, and will be patrolling the Yanchep Lagoon as part of their regular weekly patrols until noon.
Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said it was a great opportunity for anyone wanting to potentially join the club to learn more and see them in action.
“The far-northern coastal suburbs have been growing at an incredible rate and now the Yanchep SLSC has exceptional facilities to accommodate a bigger membership,” Mayor Roberts said.
“Yanchep Lagoon is such a popular beach, enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. With the accompanying works carried out at the neighboring Picnic Cove later this year, this special area will be such a wonderful space for people to enjoy.”
Lotterywest contributed $500,000 to the $7.67 million project, which included construction of the surf club complete with public toilets and changerooms, beach access ramps, lookout tower, new carparks and a laydown area.
