Close the Gap Day 19 March
Published Wednesday, 18th March 2015
Close the Gap Day is an Oxfam initiative that brings attention to the issues of the life expectancy gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
Most Australians enjoy one of the highest life expectancies of any country in the world — but this is not true for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Indigenous Australians can expect to live 10–17 years less than other Australians. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experience higher rates of preventable illness such as heart disease, kidney disease and diabetes.

The City of Wanneroo offers many health and wellbeing projects and programs within the City, this includes the City's Reconciliation Action Plan. However, we do recognise that there are barriers to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders being part of these programs. If you are part of an organisation, or an individual that is able to recognise these barriers and have suggestions on how these may be overcome, please contact Doug Middlemass at doug.middlemass@wanneroo.wa.gov.au
All contributions are appreciated in order to help us try and further improve how we can deliver health initiatives more effectively to the community.
