The City of Wanneroo is to spend $2.6 million on a new sport amenities building, floodlighting and oval extension at Edgar Griffiths Park in Wanneroo.
Councillors voted to approve the development, which is to be located in an area already used for sporting activities and recreation.
The approval comes following a month-long consultation period with residents and landowners within the area. Local sporting clubs were also contacted. Of the responses received, more than 90% were positive and in favour of the new sporting facility.
The proposed development will see an amenities building constructed that will include two change rooms, a pair of storerooms, a first aid room, an umpire’s room and toilets, built alongside a 100m² multipurpose room. The facility will be connected to mains water to provide a clean water system to the building.
Sporting activities will also take place in the evenings as floodlighting is to be installed on the oval.
The project is expected to commence by the end of October and finish in February 2019.
