History buffs from throughout Western Australia recently gathered at the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre (WLCC) for the Royal Western Australian Historical Society’s annual conference.
Hosted by the Wanneroo and Districts Historical Society in conjunction with the City of Wanneroo, more than 120 delegates from 31 affiliated historical societies, local governments and other organisations packed into the WLCC to learn about the City’s rich history and commitment to preserving its
heritage.
A range of guest speakers highlighted Wanneroo’s colourful history, including Dan Susac speaking about his family’s Lime Production business, Paul Conti regaling tales of his family’s vineyards and wine production, and Derek Donegan speaking about his time as a telegram boy in the 1950s.
Wanneroo Museum staff member, Bryce Kershaw, spoke of the heritage houses and museum collection that the City is privileged to preserve and promote through education programs and community engagement.
The conference included a bus tour of heritage sites throughout Wanneroo, including Trandos Farm, Cockman House, the Wanneroo Showground and Barbagallo Raceway.
