Book Week comes to the City with exciting events

This year’s Book Week theme of Escape to Everywhere is being embraced by the City of Wanneroo with a series of events.
Mayor Tracey Roberts is attending Book Week sessions at the increasingly popular Alkimos Pop-Up Library; the first to read to primary school students, and the second to listen to author Scott Guerini talk about his new book.
“Book Week is an exciting time not just in the City but throughout Australia, as it gives teachers, librarians, parents and children the chance to enjoy time together and focus on the importance of reading,” Mayor Roberts said.
Mayor Roberts read three books to more than 50 kindergarten students from St James Anglican School on Monday, 21 August.
On Friday, 25 August, Mayor Roberts will attend the signing of Scott Guerini’s new book, ‘Did You Know You Can Change the World?’, also at Alkimos Pop-Up Library.
Eleven year old Scott has been fundraising since the age of four, and plans to raise a further $50,000 for the 50th year of Telethon in 2017. All proceeds from the sale of his book will go towards Scott’s fundraising goal.
Book Week sees libraries around Australia create activities, competitions and displays, while school students take the opportunity to dress up as their favourite book character.
Activities happening within the City’s libraries and aimed at school students include:
