The City of Wanneroo has welcomed recommendations tabled in state parliament by the Honourable Tony Simpson MLA, Minister for Local Government which examined procurement practices.

The City was one of five local governments who voluntarily participated in an audit of its procurement processes by RSM Bird Cameron.

The objective of the audit was to evaluate the capacity of systems, policies, procedures and practices of the local government authorities to effectively prevent, identify and respond to misconduct in procurement practices.

Wanneroo CEO Daniel Simms said the City was happy to participate in the audit and welcomed the report's findings and recommendations.

"The City is always comfortable in demonstrating our processes and in this case looked upon the audit as a health check of our procurement policies and procedures," Mr Simms said.

“The City has a strong audit program of both internal and independent external audit, an active audit committee and a robust risk management policy.

"It was pleasing to have confirmation that across the board, there were no issues of misconduct.

"However, we recognise that there is always room for improvements, and the City is continually working to improve our training and procurement practices both now and into the future."
