Significant step forward in recoding process
Published Tuesday, 24th February 2015
On Tuesday 3 February, the City of Wanneroo Council adopted a draft scheme amendment for the Wanneroo and Girrawheen-Koondoola housing precincts.
Draft documentation will now be forwarded to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) for permission to advertise the amendment for public comment.
City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said this was good news for landowners in the Wanneroo and Girrawheen-Koondoola housing precincts, who were now another step closer to being able to redevelop their properties from low density to medium density housing – if they so choose.
"The proposed changes need to be advertised and approved by the State Government, however we are certainly making progress," Mayor Roberts said.
"The proposed amendment may allow sub-division of properties and provide residents with choices as to where they may build, buy or rent."
The draft amendment will be made available for public comment for 42 days, and then forwarded to Council for consideration.
If adopted, final draft documentation will be sent to the WAPC for assessment and the Minister for Planning for consideration. If approved, it will be published in the Government Gazette.
Mayor Roberts acknowledged that it is a lengthy process, but a necessary one to ensure areas considered for medium density housing have access to appropriate services and infrastructure.
Property owners are reminded that if/when the amendment is Gazetted, all subdivision, development and/or building applications will still require approval from the Western Australian Planning Commission and/or City of Wanneroo.
