City of Wanneroo celebrates valuable volunteers
Published Wednesday, 26th April 2017
The generous contribution of volunteers will be celebrated by the City of Wanneroo during National Volunteer Week.
National Volunteer Week will be held from 8-14 May and this year’s theme is Give Happy, Live Happy.
Volunteering is thriving in Wanneroo with more than 600 volunteers registered and more than 500 enquiries each year from community members wanting to help.
Mayor Tracey Roberts said National Volunteer Week was a perfect opportunity to acknowledge the wonderful work done by so many people throughout the City of Wanneroo.
“We are blessed to have so many residents prepared to volunteer their time for the benefit of our community,” Mayor Roberts said.
“It is the ongoing efforts of our volunteers that help to make the City of Wanneroo such a welcoming and enjoyable place in which to live.”
Volunteering information sessions will be held at each of the City’s libraries during National Volunteer Week to offer residents the chance to learn about the many volunteering opportunities available in their community and how they can make a difference.
Community groups and organisations including Volunteer Task Force, St John Ambulance, Ed Connect and the Department of Parks and Wildlife will discuss their volunteer programs with refreshments to follow.
If you have some spare time to meet new people, learn new skills and take on new challenges, come to this free session and learn about:
- the benefits of volunteering
- available volunteering opportunities
- identifying the skills that you have to contribute to volunteering
