City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts extended her thanks to emergency service personnel and volunteers for their efforts in fighting the latest fire which threatened homes in the north of the City.
The fire, which started on Australia Day, raged through more than 1500 hectares of land, threatening the safety of residents and homes in Pinjar, Carabooda, Yanchep, Alkimos and Eglinton.
"I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who has been working around the clock to fight this fire," Mayor Roberts said.
"This includes fire-fighters from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, the City of Wanneroo bushfire brigades, as well as City employees and staff from a number of agencies including SES, the Department of Child Protection, the Australian Red Cross and Western Power.
"Many of the City of Wanneroo volunteer fire-fighters have full time jobs or have their own businesses, and the fact they immediately responded to the call for help reflects their dedication and commitment to keeping the community safe. We are in good hands.
"I personally saw many of the fire-fighters after their shift and they looked exhausted. It is strenuous work, under dreadful, life threatening conditions, and I am sure the community joins me in a loud resounding 'Thank you'.
"Because of their efforts, many homes on Nisa Road and Old Yanchep Road were saved and our residents are safe."
