Major projects and infrastructure initiatives by the City of Wanneroo at Yanchep-Two Rocks will continue over the coming months.
Construction of the northern portion of the Yanchep Surf Life Saving Club car park began in mid-October, as scheduled, and is planned to be open to the public by mid-December.
Mayor Tracey Roberts said the City plans to upgrade the existing temporary pedestrian staircase to the Lagoon Beach by late November, including removal of the existing temporary pedestrian stair access.
“The refurbishment of the toilet block at Fisherman’s Hollow, is now complete and the building has reopened to the public.
“As part of the overall Yanchep Foreshore upgrade, the renovation includes new male, female and disabled toilets, new walls, sinks and a roof restoration. The facility has also been made flood proof, with upgrades to external drainage.
“The original mosaic – a local artist’s depiction of Fisherman’s Hollow - is currently being restored, and will be returned by the end of the year.
“Re-scoping of the outstanding work on the new Yanchep Surf LS Club is currently underway, with public tender advertising for the project planned for mid-November 2016.
The car park adjacent to the Surf Club building will be completed by the new builder,” she said.
The previous contract with DGX Construction was terminated in late September due to a substantial departure from the approved construction program without reasonable cause.
Mayor Roberts also advised that a new operator for the Yanchep Beach Café is expected to begin trading within the next few weeks.
“The City is finalising lease arrangements, and required maintenance, following a two-week advertising period on the proposal to award a six-month lease to Bernardo Alidi – Orion Café Pty Ltd. No public submissions were received on the lease proposal.
“The broader strategic review of the Brazier Road site is underway, and includes an evaluation of the whole precinct, including the existing Café building and the potential for the redevelopment of the old Yanchep Surf Club building. The review will form part of a report to Council’s mid-year budget review in January.
“Construction of ovals for the Yanchep Active Open Space is well underway and will be completed by the end of May 2017, followed by planting in June to complete the landscaping work for the ovals.
“At the same site, work on the Yanchep District Sports Amenities Building is scheduled to start in January 2017, with planned completion by September, subject to early award of tender and contractor availability. Users will be able to access all the facilities following completion of those works,” she said.
Meanwhile, the construction tender for essential services to the Mary Lindsay Homestead site was awarded in mid-October. Work started almost immediately with completion planned by mid-December 2016.
Subsequent work to create a Public Open Space is scheduled to be finished by mid- 2017 and the Homestead building works by late 2017.
At the Two Rocks Volunteer Fire Station the City is currently reviewing several options for construction of additional meeting / training space and change facilities. The City is proposing to advertise a construction tender in the coming months.
Also at Two Rocks the beach access staircase has been removed to address significant public safety risk. A temporary observation point will be installed at the existing staircase location including a concrete hardstand, fencing and bench seating.
The quotation period for a Beach Access Options Assessment closed on 1 November with a preferred consultant to be appointed soon.
Mayor Roberts emphasised that all previous community feedback and design proposals relating to long term beach access will be provided to the consultant for consideration in the development of beach access options.
“The Beach Access Options Assessment is expected to be completed by January 2017, after which a further Community Information Session will be held to present the outcomes of the study and to obtain feedback from the community.
“The City appreciates the patience of the community for any inconvenience caused by the multi-million dollar infrastructure investment at Yanchep-Two Rocks,” she said.
