The new Pearsall Hocking Community Centre has an eyecatching ‘flying bicycle’ artwork that also delivers an uplifting message about the benefits of active and healthy lifestyles.
Artist Tony Pankiw’s sculpture The Enlightened Bicycles is a unique concept of flying bicycles which are bolted in place with a bike rack below to house 10 bikes.
The artwork takes pride of place outside the $3.9 million centre which will be open to the public from 13 October.
Mayor Tracey Roberts said the sculpture will provide a unique sense of pride and encourage residents to walk or ride to the centre.
“The Pearsall Hocking Community Centre has a host of modern facilities including change rooms, showers and lockers that support leaving the car at home and using alternative ways to travel to the centre,” she said.
“The centre is also very disability friendly with wheelchair access and facilities that focus on including people of all ages and abilities.”
The Centre will provide for a wide range of community uses from playgroups, meetings, social functions, educational and indoor recreational activities.
The Pearsall Hocking Community Centre is located on Willespie Drive, Pearsall.
