City of Wanneroo Acting Mayor Dot Newton thanked the many volunteers who worked tirelessly over the last few days.
The bushfire that threatened lives and homes in the City of Wanneroo over the weekend is currently contained and under control (as at 3.07pm), however the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) has advised that there is still a risk that wind changes may see the fire break containment lines. Fire fighters are working to prevent this.
City of Wanneroo Acting Mayor Dot Newton thanked the many volunteers who worked tirelessly over the last few days.
"I would like to acknowledge the incredible contributions of our emergency service workers and our many volunteers who dealt with, or are still dealing with the fire," Councillor Newton said.
"This includes DFES, City of Wanneroo bushfire volunteers, bushfire volunteers from neighbouring local governments and as far away as the South West, SES, St John's, Red Cross, Department of Parks and Wildlife, and many City staff members. Our residents appreciate each and every one of you.
"I would also like to thank the community members who came forward to offer their support, bringing food and drinks for fire fighters, and donating items such as blankets, clothes, and children's toys for people displaced from their homes during the evacuation.
"I feel immensely proud of the community spirit and compassion displayed by the people of the City."
Councillor Newton said the City of Wanneroo emergency management team was organising a recovery team to oversee recovery and cleanup operations across affected areas during the days and weeks ahead.
