Cockman House temporarily closed for maintenance

Published Friday, 9th September 2016

The City of Wanneroo’s Cockman House, one of the most important heritage buildings in the district, will be closed between 19 September and 29 October for remedial work.

Cockman House

Cockman House was built over 150 years ago and offers visitors a glimpse into the past. The works will ensure future generations can continue to learn about the importance of the Cockman family and Wanneroo’s pioneering history.

The City has received a Development Approval for the proposed works, and as part of the approval process, State Heritage Office and Department of Planning were consulted and had no objections.

Having monitored significant wall cracking in a number of rooms for some time at Cockman House, an engineering solution is required to halt and repair this process.

Roof supports will be installed to reduce the load on the walls.

The works will also include removal of cracked areas of the external render and new lime render will be applied.

The closure period includes the October school holidays in order to cause as little impact on school excursion bookings to the site as possible.
