The City of Wanneroo has welcomed support for the rail extension to Yanchep, from the Leader of the Opposition Mark McGowan MLA.
Mayor Tracey Roberts met with Mark McGowan and Member for Butler John Quigley MLA to discuss how the extension of the rail to Yanchep is of critical importance to the communities in the northern suburbs.
“The City of Wanneroo is WA’s largest growing local government area and we welcome Mr McGowan’s commitment that, should Labor form government, one of its first priorities will be to invest in the northern rail line,” Mayor Roberts said.
“Residents in the northern suburbs are currently facing 90 minute commutes on the Mitchell Freeway, which is totally unacceptable.
“The City of Wanneroo and our residents have been very vocal in our call for improved infrastructure during the recent Fund Our Future campaign.
“Our community response was the highest in the nation, with residents sending a very clear message to politicians in Canberra.
“Rail infrastructure is vital for our growing community and will have a positive impact on work-life balance and employment opportunities in the City.”
