Published Thursday, 30th June 2016
As of today, 30 June 2016, the City of Wanneroo population has reached 195,000
From a population of 100 at the time of settlement in 1902, Wanneroo grew to 1,100 in 1950, 8,000 in 1970 and 80,000 in 2001. In the past 14 years the population has more than doubled.
Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said she was incredibly proud that so many people had chosen to call the City of Wanneroo home.
"The City of Wanneroo is the largest growing local government in Western Australia," she said. “The story of our growth is truly remarkable and we are proud of our City and its heritage and grateful to the pioneers whose hard work has laid the foundations for what is a truly vibrant and beautiful place to live.”
Mayor Roberts said the City had come a long way from the days of settlement. “We work incredibly hard to ensure everyone enjoys where they have chosen to live and feels a strong sense of community,” she said.
“Local employment opportunities, as well as road and rail infrastructure need to be accelerated and we will continue to work on your behalf to get projects like rail to Yanchep and the Mitchell Freeway extension to Romeo Road delivered as soon as possible.”
The population level is estimated to reach 550,000 people by 2070.
