The City of Wanneroo has welcomed the start of a four-year energy storage trial for residents at Alkimos Beach.

Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the trial, which aims to save participating residents 15 per cent or more on their electricity bills, would significantly benefit the local community and encourage sustainability into the future.

“The City of Wanneroo is the fastest growing local authority in WA and as such, we need to ensure sustainability and the environment are at the heart of everything we do.

“A key pillar of our Strategic Community Plan is the environment, aspiring to be a healthy and sustainable natural and built environment by embracing renewable energy and leading by example.

“This trial is a great example of innovation within the energy field and we are thrilled it will be taking place within our City.”

The $6.7 million trial, partly funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, is a collaboration between Synergy and development partners LandCorp and Lendlease.
