Green Growth Plan – have your say

Published Tuesday, 22nd March 2016

The City of Wanneroo is encouraging landowners particularly in East Wanneroo to familiarise themselves with a draft State Government document that has the potential to impact future land development.

The Perth and Peel Green Growth Plan for 3.5 Million – known as the Green Growth Plan – was released by the State Government in December 2015, with the period for public comment set to close on 8 April.

The Green Growth Plan seeks to balance population growth with protection of the natural environment, significantly expanding the areas set aside for conservation.

Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts expressed concern that the plan was released without important information, including detailed plans and maps showing which areas of native vegetation is intended to be protected.

“This is a draft plan of the State Government that has generated discussion and some uncertainty about its implications,” Mayor Roberts said.

“It is important that our residents have clarity and transparency about future plans for the area, especially those landowners with remnant native vegetation that could be considered to be of environmental value.

“Whilst this is not a City of Wanneroo document, we strongly encourage our residents to respond to help shape its preparation and highlight the issues and opportunities that exist in their local area.”

Council will consider the Green Growth Plan at its 5 April meeting and will make a detailed submission, which can be viewed in its draft form on the City’s website.

The City is also requesting that the State Government provide detailed maps, consult with affected local residents and extend the public comment period so residents have more time to have their say.

For information on making a submission or any other enquiries, please contact Department of Premier and Cabinet on 6552 5151 or greengrowthplan@dpc.wa.gov.au.
