New public murals to shine in Banksia Grove

Students from Neerabup Primary School have created five murals for the Banksia Grove Community Centre to showcase the role public art has in forming a sense of place and community.

The murals will be officially launched on 11 December at the Banksia Grove Community Centre by City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts.
Mayor Roberts said the beautiful and vibrant murals were created by the Year 6 students.
“This project allowed the students to feel a sense of pride, achievement and contribution to their local community,” she said.
Artist James Foley worked with the students to produce the artwork, which was based on what made them feel happy.
The five murals have been installed in the children’s play space and barbeque area at the centre and will encourage the surrounding community to use the grounds in a safe, accessible and enriching manner.
The launch event will allow participating students, support staff and community members to celebrate a successful local community partnership to deliver a community vision. The thoughts and moving stories behind the designs will be shared by the students at the launch.
The murals were made possible thanks to a partnership between the City’s Banksia Grove Community Centre, Neerabup Primary School and James Foley.
Belridge Secondary Education Support Centre also got involved as part of their community studies course.
