Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts joined Premier Colin Barnett in Yanchep on Monday to accept a $500,000 Lotterywest grant for the new Surf Life Saving Club at Yanchep Beach Lagoon.

The grant, presented by Premier Barnett, will go towards the $6.3million project which includes the new Surf Life Saving building, portable beach viewing tower, car park and beach access ramps.

Mayor Roberts thanked Lotterywest for the significant contribution on behalf of the City and its residents.

“The City has worked hard with Surf Life Saving WA and the community to ensure the successful delivery of this project,” Mayor Roberts said.

“The dedication of the Yanchep Surf Life Saving Club president, patrol, members and volunteers is to be applauded.

“The Lotterywest funding is vital towards the development of this important community facility which will serve the north coastal corridor’s fast growing population.”

Premier Barnett said the beach was the busiest in the City and would only grow in popularity as Yanchep developed into the next strategic metropolitan centre.

“The new building and its location will significantly improve beach safety services and provide space to conduct training and social activities to build club membership and community partnerships,” he said.

Detailed architectural design of the club is being finalised and documentation is being prepared for the construction tender.

Construction is anticipated to commence early 2016 and is expected to be completed for the surf lifesaving season later that year.

The City considers the input of Yanchep Surf Life Saving Club and Surf Life Saving WA an integral part of the design process and will continue to work with them to achieve the best outcome for the club and beach users.
