City invests in innovation in Neerabup

The City of Wanneroo has extended its support for CORE Innovation Hub until 2027 to facilitate the activation of the AARP in Neerabup.

The agreement represents a forward-thinking investment in technology-driven industries that are reshaping the global economy.

Managed by the State Government through DevelopmentWA and operated by CORE Innovation Hub, the 51-hectare AARP has become a hub for cutting-edge solutions in automation, artificial intelligence and robotics, attracting significant investment and new businesses to the Neerabup Industrial Area since August 2022.

Wanneroo Mayor Linda Aitken said the three-year agreement would provide the local business community with the opportunity to work alongside global industry leaders such as IMDEX, an ASX-listed leading global mining technology company, Autonomous Solutions Inc Mining, a US-based robotics firm, and RCT Global, a global leader in smart technology enablers.

“Over the past twelve months, the continued development of the AARP has put the Neerabup Industrial Area at the forefront of technological innovation in the State,” Mayor Aitken said.

“It is estimated that the AARP will inject over $600 million into the Western Australian economy by 2030, with 80% of that value captured by local and regional businesses and organisations.

“This new funding agreement demonstrates the City’s commitment to securing a competitive edge in the global market by investing in future-focused infrastructure, and will grant our business community access to tours, events and support services at the AARP, as well as the opportunity to participate in exclusive innovation, development and testing programs.”

Following a successful initial 12-month sponsorship of the AARP, Wanneroo Council voted to approve the new three-year funding agreement, valued at up to $225,000, at its November meeting.

The new agreement coincides with an AARP milestone, the opening of the common-user headquarters on Friday 15 November. The 1200sqm building features co-working offices and meeting rooms, research and development spaces, showcasing areas, workshop facilities, laboratories, small-scale fabrication facilities and training rooms.

“The AARP is one of the biggest testing and development facilities in the world, and our continued collaboration with CORE will attract a diverse industry base of local, national, and global companies to the City,” Mayor Aitken said.

“We’re building the City’s reputation as a place for innovative and strategic industries to locate, ensuring a diverse job market for our local residents.”
