The City of Wanneroo has allocated more than $16million to transport infrastructure in the 2015-16 Budget.
Mayor Tracey Roberts said as a key area for residential and commercial development, the City was investing in road infrastructure and traffic treatments to meet the future needs of its growing population.
“Local governments are responsible for around 80 per cent of the nation’s roads which is a substantial responsibility,” she said.
“Allocation of funding for roads makes up a great deal of our Budget because they play a significant part in our daily lives.
“The City is conscious of the needs in our growing northern coastal corridor, which is expecting 73,000 additional people by 2036, and the need to upgrade more established infrastructure in the southern suburbs.”
Major road projects include almost $4million for the duelling of Connolly Drive between Neerabup Road and Lukin Drive, a $510,000 upgrade to the Marmion Avenue/ Lagoon Drive/Peony Boulevard intersection and realignment of Old Yanchep Road from Pederick Road to Wattle Avenue.
The City is also continuing major works to Lenore Road in Wanneroo and has allocated $240,000 for traffic signals at Cheriton Drive and Joondalup Drive in Carramar.
