Recycle unwanted electronics
Published Friday, 29th May 2015
Residents can dispose of computers, TV’s and other electronic items for free at the Ashby Operations Centre on Saturday 13 June and 14 Sunday.
Mayor Tracey Roberts said the recycling e-Waste collection event was a great opportunity for residents to safety dispose of unwanted old technology.
“Like any decomposable matter it is important to dispose of electronics correctly to protect and conserve our environment,” she said.
“Recycling of computers is particularly important as older style monitors may contain hazardous materials that need to be disposed of responsibly.
“The materials and chemical components used to make computer equipment such as lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic can leach into the soil and groundwater, causing harm to our environment.”
This event will be considered as a trial with the aim of holding regular collections throughout the year at different locations around the City.
