Flynn Drive update

Main Roads WA will complete the Flynn Drive connection with Neerabup Road concurrently with the Mitchell Freeway extension project.
In September 2013, Council agreed to proceed with the design and construction of the Flynn Drive realignment and the new Wanneroo Road/Flynn Drive signalised intersection project with the understanding the Mitchell Freeway project north of Burns Beach Road would not be completed for a substantial amount of time.
The City awarded the contract to undertake the construction works in February 2014.
Acting Director of Infrastructure Harminder Singh said significant delays to the project, due to the need to relocate power and communications infrastructure, had set back the Flynn Drive Realignment and the new intersection works.
“Due to the early commencement of the Mitchell Freeway, if the City proceeds with the construction of the Wanneroo Road / Neerabup Road / Flynn Drive intersection at this time, the completed works would be sacrificial,” he said.
“As part of the Mitchell Freeway project scope of works, Main Roads WA would deconstruct the intersection less than six months after its completion.
“In the interest of ratepayers, City administration has made the decision to terminate works and let Main Roads WA continue with the Mitchell Freeway project which includes the Neerabup Road from Connolly Drive to Wanneroo Road/Flynn Drive intersection.
“This would also benefit the road users as the inconvenience due to roadworks on Wanneroo Road would occur once only.
