The City of Wanneroo celebrates National Reconciliation Week

Published Wednesday, 27th May 2015

The City will be celebrating National Reconciliation Week and its new Reconciliation Action Plan by offering eight weeks of free Aboriginal cultural workshops to local schools.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is celebrated from 27 May – 3 June each year and has been celebrated since 1996. NRW celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanded culture and fosters reconciliation activities and discussions.

This year the City will be celebrating its second RAP (2015-2017) after a successful initial RAP in 2012-2014. The City will be celebrating NRW by inviting schools to take part in an Aboriginal cultural workshop entitled 'Noongar Boodjar'. These workshops will run on Wednesday mornings from 27 May to 15 July. Students who attend will also be able to view the temporary display of Noongar artefacts on display in the Great Court of the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre as well as contribute to a Reconciliation display of origami animals folded from Aboriginal themed paper.
