A time to reflect

Residents are encouraged to commemorate the centenary of Anzac and contribute personal messages at Dedication Walls around the City of Wanneroo.
Mayor Tracey Roberts said the Dedication Wall at the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre was created to involve the local community in recognising the sacrifices of our local men and service women.
“When 26 men from Wanneroo bravely left their families 100 years ago, six would not return and three would later die from their injuries, a very sad loss for a small community of only 300 residents,” Mayor Roberts said.
“Our local families and community hold the Anzac legacy very close to our hearts in support of past and current serving defence force members.
“I encourage residents to take the time to write a heartfelt message or acknowledgment and attach it to the wall of remembrance.
“Together these dedications highlight the memories and emotions of the Wanneroo community and help us to commemorate the Anzac centenary.”
More than 700 handmade poppies were collected from local craft and school groups, community organisations and individuals to decorate the Dedication Wall.
The wall is on display in the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre from April to November.
Smaller walls have also been erected at the City of Wanneroo libraries.
