5000 Poppies

The Wanneroo Regional Museum will be blooming with poppies from mid-next week, as part of a nationwide Anzac commemorative project.
Titled 5000 Poppies, the project encourages people to create fabric poppies in remembrance of those who served in World War One.
Set up by a team of crafters in Victoria, the movement spread nationwide and poppies from around Australia will be collected and displayed in Federation Square, Melbourne on Anzac Day 2015 for the centenary commemorations.
Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the City of Wanneroo is the collection point for locally made poppies.
"Local craft groups and individuals were encouraged to take part and pass on their poppies to the Wanneroo Regional Museum," Mayor Roberts said.
"Children who visited the museum during the 2014 April school holidays were encouraged to make their own contribution to the project, producing poppies out of red felt and black buttons."
Hundreds of poppies have already been donated in a range of styles, including wool, crocheted, sewn, knitted and felt.
Wanneroo Regional Museum will be displaying these locally made poppies from 29 October to 25 November to coincide with Remembrance Day.
The Museum is still collecting locally made poppies to contribute to the 5000 Poppies project. If you wish to contribute, all poppies need to be made of fabric or material (not paper), must be predominately red, and cannot exceed 15cm in size.
All contributions will be sent to Melbourne in the new year, ready for the final display in Federation Square.
