Clay and Damien Small

Two mates have cycled a gruelling 200km journey to honour family members whose lives were touched by cancer.

Alexander Heights business owner and marketing advisor Clay has twice swapped out his desk chair for a bicycle to participate in the Cancer 200 Ride for Research which raises vital funds for cancer research.

Joined by Marangaroo resident Damien, the pair are members of the Not Fast Just Furious team, which raised more than $62,000 this year alone.

Clay rides for his aunt and grandmother who are both cancer survivors, while Damien cycles in honour of his grandmother, who is a survivor, and for his grandfather, who sadly passed away from multiple cancers.

“It’s feels great to take a bit of power back and give cancer a whack in the chops for a change,” Clay said.

“So many incredible scientists and researchers are working on cures, it’s wonderful to play a small, but important, role in helping them.

“We’ve already got 26 riders confirmed in our team for next year’s ride, we want to raise $75,000!”

The 2022 Cancer 200 Ride for Research featured 1,500 riders who covered 200km in two days and raised a whopping $8.6 million for cancer research.
