Quinns Beach Long Term Coastal Management - Stage 2 construction updates
Update - 25 January 2019
Groyne 2 construction is now complete. Remaining works are focusing on dune rehabilitation, beach re-nourishment and a clean up of the site. All Stage 2 construction works are expected to be completed by mid-February 2019.
Update - 21 December 2018
Update - 4 December 2018
Groyne 2 construction works are progressing as planned with the toe of the structure now completed around the offshore section of the structure. Works are now focussing on placement of rock and increasing the level of the offshore section until the end of the year.
Note that construction will cease between 21 December 2018 and 6 January 2019. Beach users should continue to avoid all construction works and equipment during this time.
Update - 5 November 2018
Initial Beach Renourishment adjacent to the Quinns Beach Carpark has been completed and the beach south of the work site is open to the public.
Groyne 2 construction is now underway and is expected to be completed in February 2019.
Update - 29 October 2018
Stage 2 coastal management works are underway with the City’s Contractor mobilising on site on 22 October 2018.
Initial beach re-nourishment (10,000 tonnes) adjacent to the Quinns Beach Carpark is nearing completion after which time the beach south of the work site will be opened to the public. Fencing and safety bunting will remain in place around work areas.
Groyne 2 works and rock deliveries to the northern end of the carpark will commence from the start of November 2018.
Update - 3 October 2018
Following approval by Council at its Ordinary Meeting on 10 October 2017, the City of Wanneroo appointed WA Limestone Italia Stone Group Joint Venture to undertake the Quinns Beach Coastal Management Works over three years as follows:
- Stage 1 (2017/18) – Groyne 4, Beach Access Ramp and Beach Re-nourishment;
- Stage 2 (2018/19) – Extension of Groyne 2 and Beach Re-nourishment; and
- Stage 3 (2019/20) – Extension of Groyne 3 and Beach Re-nourishment.
Stage 1 works were completed on 30 June 2018 which will assist with the management of ongoing erosion issues along the Quinns Dog Beach.
Stage 2 works are expected on site from 22 October 2018. These works will be located at the Groyne 2 location in between Mary Street and Kemp Avenue as shown above. Works will also involve extensive beach re-nourishment in between Groyne 1 and Groyne 2 along with transport of materials and equipment from the northern end of the Quinns Beach carpark (north of Fred Stubbs Park) to the Groyne 2 location.
Stage 2 works will be completed by March 2019, subject to site conditions and suitable weather during construction. The completion of these works will assist with the management of the ongoing erosion adjacent to the Quinns Beach carpark and should reduce the need for ongoing beach re-nourishment in this area
Note that temporary carpark, beach and path closures will apply adjacent to the work site and signage and fencing will be in place to manage public access in these areas. For your safety, please avoid all construction works and equipment. Whilst it is inevitable that works of this nature will cause some inconvenience, every endeavour will be made to ensure that this is kept to a minimum.
