Did you know that more than 40 per cent of the City of Wanneroo’s community were born overseas?
WA Harmony Week runs from 15 to 21 March every year and is an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate our vibrant multicultural community.
This year, the City of Wanneroo is celebrating with a range of community activities designed to celebrate multiculturalism, and encourage inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
Celebrations at City of Wanneroo Libraries
Come and join us at the City of Wanneroo libraries for a celebration of musical cultures. All of these events are free, but booking is essential.
Vietnamese dance and culture
Where: Wanneroo Library, Rocca Way, Wanneroo
When: Wednesday 19 March // 3:30pm to 5pm
Come along and learn about Vietnamese classical dance. Predominantly performed during Lunar New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival, Vietnamese dancing has been an innate part of Vietnamese culture since ancient times. Featuring great skill this dance will have participants amazed at the sight before them.
Experience Flamenco dance with Danza Viva
Where: Girrawheen Library, 6 Patrick Ct, Girrawheen
When: Thursday 20 March // 3:30pm to 5pm
Danza Viva is the longest running Spanish Dance Academy in W.A. The current Director Sofia Pratt is passionate about flamenco, an art form based on the various folkoric music traditions of southern Spain and developed within the gitano (Romani) subculture of the region of Andalusia, southern Spain.
Traditional music and the Bon dance of Japan at Clarkson Library
Where: Clarkson Library, Cnr Ebb Way & Ocean Keys Blvd, 4/27 Ocean Keys Blvd, Clarkson
When: Thursday 20 March // 11am to 12.30pm
Come along and listen to Sanshi play the shinobue and taiko. Shinobue is a Japanese side-blown bamboo flute that has a high-pitched but melodic in sound. Traditionally shinobue plays an important part in the music festivals, folksongs, Shinto ritual and theatre performances of kabuki. The taiko or drum has been part of Japanese culture for centuries. When hit hard with bachi, taiko can produce sounds topping 130 decibels, a sound level is on a par with the noise produced by jet planes. Sanshi will also guide you though some songs, moves and dances.
Harmony Week at Girrawheen Hub
Girrawheen Hub will come alive with a flurry of fun activities, games and performances on Thursday 20 March.
Enjoy cultural stalls, kids games, an ice cream van and plenty of fun community-led activities.

Evening in the Park
Celebrate Harmony Week by joining in the celebrations at this colourful multicultural event on Friday 21 March.
Come along to Hudson Park in Girrawheen for cultural performances, food trucks from around the globe, local crafts, and plenty of fun for families.

Harmony Week at City of Wanneroo Youth Centres
Join the youth team for Harmony Week celebrations in our Youth Centres on Thursday 20 March.
Bring in a recipe to have fun making some of your favourite cultural foods, and join in a variety of activities to learn about our diverse community.
- 3.30pm to 6.30pm at Wanneroo Youth Centre, Clarkson Youth Hub and Hainsworth Youth Centre.
- 3pm to 6pm at Yanchep Youth Centre.
