NAIDOC Week - 7 to 14 July 2024
National NAIDOC Week celebrates and recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year's theme celebrates the unyielding spirit of our communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced.
We invite you to celebrate NAIDOC Week and grow your understanding of First Nations cultures and histories through a range of free activities held in the City of Wanneroo.

Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud – Photography exhibition

Connect with this year’s NAIDOC Week theme and visit the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre to see a collection of Noongar photographer Cole Baxter’s images on display.

NAIDOC Week Flag Raising Ceremony

National NAIDOC Week is a time for all Australians to celebrate and acknowledge the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The 2024 theme, Keep The Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud, honours the enduring spirit of these communities and calls for solidarity in amplifying their voices.
The City of Wanneroo will host a Flag Raising Ceremony featuring a Welcome to Country, a speech by Mayor Linda Aitken, and a cultural performance. Refreshments will be provided.

Welcome to Country – Museum exhibition

Visit Wanneroo Regional Museum to see Welcome to Country, a new exhibition focused on celebrating and elevating Noongar voices, culture and creativity.
The exhibition includes video interviews with prominent Noongar figures like Aunty Oriel Green, Esandra Colbung, Derek Nannup, Beccy Garlett, and Casey Kickett, alongside the Six Seasons artworks from the Kookaburra Club, on loan from the Berndt Museum of Anthropology.
Featuring video interviews and artworks, Welcome to Country tells stories from the Dreaming, the Gnangara Community, truth telling and more.
This permanent exhibition will evolve over time, encouraging ongoing learning and curiosity about Noongar culture and the land.

Noongar Storytime with Rickeeta Walley - Sessions for bubs, toddlers and ninny ones

NAIDOC Week Planting and Yarning in Yanchep

Where: Kalbarri Park, Yanchep
Join us at Kalbarri Park for a special NAIDOC Week tree planting session.
Celebrate and recognise our local history and culture and hear from some special guests who will share their knowledge. Take part in some weaving activities, enjoy a yarn, and learn how to make damper!

Four-part Noongar singing masterclass with Gina and Guy
When: Tuesday 23 July, Thursday 30 July, Tuesday 6 August and Tuesday 20 August 2024 // 6:30pm to 8pm
Where: Theatrette, Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre, 3 Rocca Way,
Cost: $20 per participant.
Join Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse for this four-part intensive series, designed for those passionate about music, language and the arts.
Noongar language is critically endangered, with only a few speakers left. Not only will these workshops teach you the skills of singing Noongar, you’ll also get the opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of the Noongar music and singing.
The workshop culminates in a final session concert for family and friends, showcasing the skills and knowledge gained.
