About the position

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Museum Engagement Officer to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in connecting diverse audiences with the museum's collections, exhibitions, and programs. Your creativity, communication skills, and passion for culture and history will help inspire and engage our visitors, fostering a deeper appreciation for the stories we share. The role is responsible for:

  • Delivering timely and accurate front-of-house museum services, including opening and closing procedures, coordinating bookings, maintaining public areas, and providing administrative support to ensure smooth operations.
  • Assisting in planning, promoting and delivering museum programs and events that meet customer needs, enhance visitor experiences, and contributing to increasing patronage and engagement with the City’s museums and heritage collections, places and stories.
  • Actively contributing to audience development by building relationships with local communities, educators, and organisations.
  • Collecting and reporting feedback to evaluate program effectiveness and inform future planning.

Museum Engagement Officer Position Description

About you

The successful candidate will be a passionate advocate for culture, history and learning with experience in assisting with the planning and delivery of educational or community programs and strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.

To be considered further, please submit a resume and cover letter (of no more than two pages) addressing the following:

  1. Qualification in relevant discipline such as museum studies, history, or relevant experience in a cultural institution customer service environment.
  2. Intermediate administrative and financial skills with a strong attention to detail.
  3. Intermediate communication and problem-solving skills with a focus on providing customer service.
  4. Intermediate organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
  5. Intermediate experience in the efficient utilisation of information systems and technology, including intermediate computing, numeracy and literacy skills, and data entry skills.
  6. Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment.
  7. Current Working with Children check
  8. Genuine interest in museums and culture
