About the position

The City is seeking an enthusiastic, reliable and hardworking individual to join the Rates and Accounts team with great customer service and communication skills assisting in all aspects of the rating functions of the City. The ideal candidate will be a great team player with strong multitasking skills.

The successful appointee will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining property and rating database;
  • Processing documents, requests and applications including pensioner rebates;
  • Negotiating with customers for the collection of overdue Rates and Emergency Services Levies payments;
  • Providing assistance with levying of property rates/charges and revaluation processing; and
  • Liaising with/providing advice to other City Service Units and external service providers and government authorities. 

Specialist Rates Officer Position Description

About you

As a collaborative member of the Rates & Accounts team, the position will require good problem-solving skills as well as demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills, experience in dealing with and interpreting legislation, sound numeracy and communication skills and experience in providing customer service.

As such, applicants must be able to demonstrate through their CV and covering letter that they meet the following essential criteria: 

  1. Experience in providing customer service in a high-pressure environment;
  2. Demonstrated problem-solving skills as well as negotiation and conflict resolution skills;
  3. Proven computer literacy and organisational skills; and
  4. Knowledge of relevant rates legislation.
