About the position

The City is seeking a Waste Technical Officer to join its Waste Services team to deliver and evaluate waste compliance programs and initiatives that promote positive waste and recycling choices and support the City’s Strategic Waste Management Plan.

Reporting to the Coordinator Projects & Education, you will work in partnership with stakeholders to investigate, assess and resolve waste compliance concerns within the City to support the City’s new Bookable Verge Collection service.

The role is exposed to members of the public who may be challenging, requiring the use of conflict management, resilience, and coping skills. You must be able to communicate with a wide variety of people in a professional manner, displaying patience, tact and diplomacy when needed.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Delivering waste compliance programs and initiatives that enables the success of the  City’s new Bookable Verge Collection service.
  • Investigating, assessing and resolving waste compliance concerns within the City by displaying a high level of customer service, that meets both customer needs and corporate standards.
  • Interpretation of relevant legislation, standards, and local laws, whilst managing a high volume of work and competing priorities.
  • Researching, analysing and reviewing waste management and education issues, and recommending evidence based options and solutions for improvement and mitigation.
  • Liaising with residents to promote waste reduction and recycling and implementing programs providing a community-friendly waste collection and disposal service.

Waste Technical Officer Position Description

About you

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Qualification in relevant discipline, such as Regulatory Services Certification, Compliance or Education or is desirable.
  • Relevant experience in a similar role is preferred.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Advanced communication and problem-solving skills, including conflict management.
  • Intermediate computing, numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Intermediate organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
  • Intermediate experience in the efficient utilisation of information systems and technology.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of occupational health and safety measures in the workplace, including operations where interaction with members of the public may be reasonably expected to occur.
  • C class Drivers Licence.
