About the position

The City is seeking a Technical Officer – Horticulture to join the Parks Contracts Team to contribute to the effective management of parks and streetscapes.

With a proactive and team driven approach you will possess knowledge and experience in public open space, landscape maintenance and contract management.

You will be responsible for:

  • Managing designated landscaping and asset maintenance contracts ensuring contractual compliance.
  • Operational leadership, providing direction guidance and coaching to staff under direct supervision.
  • Undertake contract procurement processes (including report writing) in line with policies and procedures.
  • Scheduling and undertake site and safety inspections to ensure works are undertaken in line with specification requirements.
  • Overseeing landscape upgrades from initial scoping to completion within budget and agreed scope.
  • Development of technical specifications and maintenance programs.
  • Liaising with customers and stakeholders to deliver service excellence, ensuring that information is accurate, consistent, clearly communicated and issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Providing an asset management service, including inspecting, recording and validating landscaping asset information.

Technical Officer – Horticulture Position Description

About you

The successful appointee must be passionate about the local community and work well in a team environment to produce quality landscape outcomes.

As a collaborative member of the team, you will be able to demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Applicants must be able to demonstrate through their CV and covering letter that they address the following selection criteria:

  1. Qualifications in relevant discipline such as Certificate IV in Horticulture, Turf or Arboriculture or relevant demonstrated experience.
  2. Skilled in supervising the work of others, providing technical assistance and motivating staff
  3. Experience in the use of information technology.
  4. Demonstrated customer service and negotiation skills
  5. Knowledge of the practical application of occupational health and safety measures.
  6. An understanding of Local Government operations and/or local government experience.
  7. Current C class Driver’s License is required
  8. Basic Worksite Traffic Management is desirable.
