Bookable verge collections - issue with property entitlements

What approvals do I need? - Ancillary Dwelling (granny flat)

Description Ancillary Dwelling (also commonly known as a Granny Flat) is a self-contained dwelling on the same lot as a single house which may be attached to, integrated with or detached from the single house
Do I need approval?

Planning Approval (also referred to as Development Approval) may be required for ancillary dwelling. Should it be required, planning approval must be obtained prior to a building permit being issued.

A Building Permit is always required for ancillary dwelling.

What do I need to submit?

Planning

Please refer to the City's DA Checklist – Residential Dwellings for a complete list of the information required to apply for planning approval.

Building

Please refer to the below application checklists (Certified or Uncertified) for a complete list of the information required to apply for a building permit:

  • Certified Residential Building Permit Application Checklist – This checklist is applicable when your proposed building has been assessed by a registered private building surveyor and they have issued a Certificate of Design Compliance (CDC) to state that the structure complies with applicable building standards; or
  • Uncertified Building Permit Application Checklist – This checklist is applicable when the plans and specifications of a proposed building have not been assessed by a registered private building surveyor and the drawings and documents submitted with your permit application will require assessment by the City’s building surveyors.
