Information

The City is aware of the issues accessing and egressing the western section of the Wangara Industrial Area from Hartman Drive through the intersections with Prindiville Drive and Buckingham Drive, with increasing delays at peak times and the high number of crashes occurring.

The City has been working with MRWA to consider the available options for both intersections to improve access to the area and improve safety. These investigations have resulted in the City receiving regulatory approval from MRWA to implement a traffic improvement project for Hartman Drive that will provide traffic signals at the intersection with Prindiville Drive with two right turn lanes from Prindiville Drive into Hartman Drive as shown in the concept plan, Drawing 4023-4-0:

  • Attachment 1 shows modifications planned to the intersection with Buckingham Drive to prevent right turns out into Hartman Drive
  • Attachment 2 – shows the preliminary traffic modelling highlighting that the modifications at both intersections will operate at an improved level of service at peak times.

An added benefit of the signalisation of the Hartman Drive / Prindiville Drive intersection is that it will provide signal-controlled pedestrian crossing points at the intersection to improve access to the adjacent bus stops, businesses to the east and a future shared pathway scheduled for construction by the City on the west side of Hartman Drive.

The City plans to apply to Main Roads WA for the next available round of State Black Spot funding in July 2024.  If we secure funding, construction of the project will happen over the 2025/26 and 2026/27 financial years. This timeframe also allows construction of a shared path on the west of Hartman Drive from Ocean Reef Road to Gnangara Road, associated land acquisition and the lowering of the overhead Western Power infrastructure prior to construction of the intersection upgrade project.
