Published Monday, 24th December 2018

December update from Main Roads WA. Update of works on the Wanneroo Road and Joondalup Drive intersection project.

Road works

PLEASE NOTE THIS INFORMATION IS PROVIDED BY MAINROADS WA

Barrier installation has been continuing at the intersection of Wanneroo Road and Joondalup Drive, as well as along the northern side of the Burns Beach roundabout in preparation for construction works to start in the New Year.

These barriers will remain in place during Stage 1 of the works, which are due for completion May 2019.

Most of the service locating is now finished and the small white posts will be removed as the works in the area are completed.

Three bus stops on Joondalup Drive are closed while works are underway. Alternative bus stops are in operation during this period, located a short walking distance along Joondalup Drive (see map below for reference).

Some of the pedestrian and cycle paths have been temporarily relocated. Please follow signage and stay on marked pathways wherever possible.

Access across the park on the south east corner of the intersection will be re-opened during the holiday period (21 December – 2 January), but will close again prior to the recommencement of works on 2 January 2019.

Note that pedestrian access across the signalised intersection will remain closed for the duration.

Work site closed – Thursday 20 December 2018 to Wednesday 2 January 2019

No work will be undertaken on site from Thursday afternoon, 20 December 2018 until Wednesday morning 2 January 2019.

During this time, barriers and traffic management will remain in place, with all roads open. Traffic management will actively monitor the area over this period and security will be on site 24 hours a day.

To contact security please call 138 138.

Construction works – early 2019

When the project resumes on 2 January 2019, the team will focus on clearing behind the barriers at the Wanneroo Road and Joondalup Drive intersection, as well as at the Burns Beach Road roundabout. Clearing will be undertaken within the road reserve and will include removing the redundant kerbing, road, paving, vegetation etc.

Other works in the New Year will include further earthworks, drainage and pavement construction.

The works will require the use of excavators, loaders, rollers, dump trucks, graders, bob cats, water carts and light vehicles, with most of the work being undertaken in day time hours between Monday and Friday, 7am to 7pm.

Some intermittent night works will need to be undertaken during January 2019; impacts to the community will be minimal.

Western Power works

Western Power will shortly commence service relocations prior to relocating its power lines underground. The undergrounding process will begin in the New Year, with some works expected to be completed during night shift.
