'Treasured' in Wanneroo
Published Thursday, 23rd August 2018
Be swept away by the City of Wanneroo’s latest exhibition in the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre Gallery, celebrating the spirit of curiosity and the act of discovery.
Stepping away from traditional ideas of treasure, Treasured turns our gaze towards the natural environment, heritage and art to explore ideas of value and significance.
On display from 25 August to 6 October, the exhibition is part of the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre’s Find Your Treasure series, and will be accompanied by an interactive children’s exhibition in the conference room – Pirate’s Lair.
Treasured will feature artworks by Judy Rogers, Leesa Padget, Wade Taylor and Claire Davenhall, linking in shipwrecks, the ocean, botany and the natural world.
From paintings and sculptures of botanical plants to seascapes and messages in a bottle, there will also be maps from the Community History Centre and carefully packaged museum objects to explore.
A range of activities and workshops will accompany the exhibition, including a botanical drawing and macro photography (extreme close-up photography) workshops.
In Pirate’s Lair, children can take part in a series of swashbuckling pirate craft activities, get cosy with books on exploration and skulduggery in our reading zone or marvel at the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre’s very own pirate ship.
