City welcomes funding commitments to bring Alkimos aquatic centre to life
Published Monday, 9th May 2022
The City welcomes both the Labor Party and the Liberal Party's recent funding commitments to support the Alkimos Aquatic and Recreation Centre, pending the outcome of the upcoming election.
The Labor Party have made a $25 million funding commitment to support the construction of the facility, and the Liberal Party have pledged $30 million.
“This is exciting news for the City and the residents of our rapidly growing northern suburbs,” Wanneroo Deputy Mayor Brett Treby said.
“The construction of a public swimming and recreation facility in the northern suburbs has been a high priority for the City for a number of years, and I want to thank both the Labor Party and the Liberal Party for their generous funding commitments.
"I also want to thank the local community for their support of the state-of-the-art AARC project.
“The City is committed to providing facilities that enable residents to lead healthy and active lifestyles and it is important that we are able to deliver a facility to suit the needs of our growing northern corridor community well into the future.
“These funding commitments are a testament to the hard work of our residents who took the time to contact their local politicians and candidates to advocate for this project, as well as the residents who registered their support for the AARC to help the City attract this funding.”
Two-time Olympic swimmer and passionate AARC advocate Blair Evans said she was thrilled to hear the City’s advocacy campaign had helped secure additional funding for the project.
“These contributions will help deliver a state-of-the-art centre for the whole community, with facilities that will support up and coming athletes in the region,” she said.
